Before the Wedding

5 Things To Do Once You Get Engaged

Congratulations on your engagement! It’s an exciting time for you and your partner, and you’re about to dive feet first into the world of wedding planning and white dresses. After the question – and the champagne – have both been popped, you’re going to feel all your feelings that you didn’t know that you had. The excitement will be mixed in with stress, and in that, you may feel a little kick of panic. It doesn’t mean that you’re about to turn into some kind of Bridezilla, but it does mean that you are about to face an awful lot of organization in the next few months.

You’re going to need to start getting things organized as soon as possible when you’ve been engaged. The earlier you book things like the wedding venue, the better but you may not have a clue where you should begin. Are you ready to start planning your wedding? Well, either way, let’s take a closer look at things that you should be doing now that you’ve become engaged.

  1. Be Happy. This is a momentous time in your life together and before you go straight into calling wedding planners and booking wedding venue viewings, you need to take a little time to just be happy together. Before you head to social media and announce your news, take a moment to be together and just be stupidly in love. Hopefully you will never have this moment again, so you need to bask in it while you can and before the world (and your mother-in-law) wants to get involved in all of the planning. There will be a lot of ideas swirling around in your head, but you should consider what you want vs what you need for your big day.

  2. Announce It. Once you’ve soaked up that happy feeling of being engaged, it’s time to shout it from the rooftops. Now is the moment you call your parents and siblings, grandparents and best friends. Once the people who matter are notified, that’s when you post it on social media and the rest of the world gets to find out. Once you’ve announced, grab a pen and paper and make a list.

  3. Insure Your Ring. Your beautiful engagement ring needs to be insured so that if something should happen to it, you can get your money back. It’s also worth checking the fit and making sure that this ring doesn’t slip off your hand and fall down a drain somewhere while you’re walking. This is an invaluable piece of jewelry and insuring the ring is going to be a smart idea.

  4. Plan A Party. You’ve become engaged, which means that you need to throw a party for yourselves and celebrate in style. You can invite your nearest and dearest to this party and include your bridal party of choice, too. Some brides like to use their engagement party to ask their friends to be their bridesmaids, which is also a beautiful thing to do! You do have to make this decision at some stage, so you can use this as your announcement.

  5. Speak To A Coordinator. Are you enjoying the idea of planning a wedding? Well, if you are too busy to do it all yourself, why not think about speaking to a wedding planner? You can pick a date and go with a wedding planner who will be able to plan your wedding to perfection.
