The size of the wedding cake depends on how many guests are expected at the wedding reception. Sizes from a professional baker range from one tier, to four or more tiers. You are not restricted to round tier cakes either—think out of the round box. Today any shape is possible. You can choose one flavor, two flavors or make each tier a separate flavor. A good baker will be able to educate you on their different types of decorations, fillings and frosting.

Wedding cakes are usually priced per slice (per serving) and prices vary dramatically and depend on so many factors (sheet or layer, extent of decorations, shape, icing, filling, etc.) For a wedding cake that feeds 100 people at your wedding reception you could pay anywhere from $100 (if you’re thrifty) to $500!
