Fairy Tale Theme Wedding

The fairy tale theme wedding is one of the most popular, and for good reason. What bride doesn’t want to look and feel like a fairy tale princess on their most special day? There are certainly plenty of ways to incorporate this theme into your wedding ceremony and reception. Here are some ideas to get your creativity flowing and jumpstart your fairy tale wedding plans:

Location

If you’re lucky enough to live close enough to a castle to hold your wedding and reception there, by all means do so. There are castles around the world which can be booked for weddings and receptions. Even the Magic Kingdom at Disneyland makes a great setting for a fairy tale wedding. If you don’t have access to a castle, you can certainly decorate most any location to resemble something out of your favorite fairy tale.

Invitations

Invitations should feature fairy tale elements like carriages, castles and magic wands. If you are designing your wedding and reception after a particular fairy tale, like Cinderella or Beauty and the Beast, use images that relate to the story on your invitations. Today’s stationery companies can help you create custom invites that coordinate perfectly with your chosen colors and your theme.

Apparel

When choosing your bridal gown, go for full out glamour. Think fitted bodices, full skirts and lots of ornamental beading and lace. If you’re doing a Cinderella theme, don’t forget the glass slippers! If your theme is medieval in nature, choose an empire waist gown and Juliet cap. Disney recently unveiled their collection of fairy tale princess wedding gowns, inspired by princesses Ariel, Jasmine, Belle and Cinderella. For the rest of your bridal party, choose romantic apparel which matches your color scheme. A fun idea is to outfit your flower girl in a floaty dress and a pair of fairy wings.

Decorations

Sparkling ice sculptures are perfect centerpieces for the fairy tale wedding theme. Go for carvings of fairy tale castles, or choose representations from your favorite fairy tale. If you live in a warm climate or just don’t want to do ice sculptures, crystal or glass sculptures are just as beautiful and last longer. Make sure to include lots of balloons and streamers in your chosen colors, and don’t skimp on the flowers. Most fairy tale weddings keep colors light and romantic, but if you’re doing a more gothic fairy tale theme red or dark purple roses look incredible.

Menu

For the menu, think royal luxury. Champagne and sparkling cider, truffles, caviar, filet mignon and smoke salmon are perfect menu items. Appetizing trays of gourmet cheeses, fruits, vegetables and chocolates make perfect hors hors d’oeuvres. Your wedding cake should be spectacular, and feature beautiful frosted details and a sparkling cake topper. The fairy tale castle is a popular cake topper for this theme. Many caterers can design a creative and delicious menu around your theme, so be sure to ask!

Favors

There are all kinds of favors you can give your guests. Tiny castle figurines made from pewter or crystal are a cute choice. Bundles of birdseed to be thrown at the couple or bottles of blowing bubbles are fun. Candy is always a popular wedding favor as well. Present guests with miniature boxes of gourmet chocolates or pretty mints wrapped in colorful tulle or lace, secured with a matching ribbon.
