Choosing a Wedding Photographer

One of the worst tasks to take on while planning a wedding is attempting to find a photographer to photograph the ceremony, and reception if there is one. Many people make the same mistake when choosing a wedding photographer. They don’t look around a lot for one and usually end up paying the first available photographer they can get. That’s an awful mistake that can be easily avoided as long as you don’t allow yourself to be suckered into paying the first photographer that comes along.

Choosing a Wedding Photographer

First, you need to look around. Scan the yellow pages or even ask friends and family if they know of any good wedding photographers. You can also ask them who they used for their wedding, and if their photographer did a good job. One of my personal favorites is to talk to amateur photographers. Not only do they pay more attention to what they photograph compared to a high priced photography company but they also won’t charge you so much that you can see a hole in your pocket book. When you come across an amateur photographer be sure to ask if you can have a look at their portfolio. It will give you a chance to see how good they are at their job. If they are just starting out, and don’t have much of a portfolio, ask them if they could take a few sample shots of some sort of an event so you can see if you like their style before making a solid decision.

After you have made your choice, give the photographer a list of must-have shots during your Wedding. Our comprehensive Wedding Photography Poses Checklist can be downloaded and printed for this use.
