Budget Winter Wedding Ideas

]]>

Generally, couples prefer to get married in seasons where the weather is guaranteed pleasant. The winter months are the least popular wedding months which actually makes them a cost-effective time to get married. January in probably the month with the least number of weddings. For the rest of us, who find winter to be the most beautiful time to get married, this is good news!

Winter brides have to compete with lesser weddings for wedding vendors which is favorable for anyone on a budget. There are, however, a few things that run expensive during winter months and as long as you can settle down on some alternatives, you can have a beautiful and creative winter wedding on a budget.

1. An Intimate Winter Wedding A wedding with hundreds of guests is not always necessarily better than an intimate wedding. Being surrounded on your special day, by people who are closest to you makes the day extra special. Inviting a small group of people makes a huge difference in the cost of snacks, drinks and dinner and will let you enjoy a warm and cozy winter wedding with family and friends.

2. Location

Look at our ideas for Winter Wedding Locations for inspiration, but keep in mind the ski lodges are at their most expensive during winter months as it is their peak season of business. Castles and destination weddings at tropical places add costs of travel and lodging. Opt instead for local parks, an at home wedding, other picturesque inns and lodges around your area that do not cater to any winter-specific activity like skiing.

3. Decorations

Take a cue from mother nature when decorating for a winter wedding. Use winter greens to decorate the banquet hall. Large boughs of evergreens and the romantic mistletoe hanging all over will create a lovely look for less. Use pinecones in jars to create table centerpieces. 4. Skip Dinner

Winter days are short and you can use this to your advantage by saying your ‘I Dos’ in a morning ceremony followed by brunch or lunch. Hosting a dinner costs twice as much as lunch. Opt for hearty winter favorites for your wedding like hot cocoa, mulled wine, filling breads, apple pie, mulled cider, spiced tea, cinnamon coffee etc.

5. Choose your Flowers Wisely

Flowers are very expensive during winter months. Especially hydrangeas, peonies and red roses (upto Valentine’s Day). However, seasonal flowers like irises, roses (not red), orchids and lilies are affordably priced. Mixing winter greens and berries into floral decorations or the bride’s bouquet also makes the decorations cost lower.

Find out which flowers are locally grown in your area and compare all costs. Tulips, for example are cheapest in winters in California as the region has many tulip growers. So, do your research and hunt for the best bargains in your area.
