Wedding Planning Basics

Customise Every Aspect of Your Wedding and Make it Amazing

Of course you want your wedding to stand out from the crowd – once you’ve seen a few traditional weddings, you’ve seen them all. Do you really want to be forgotten in a sea of ivory silk and party poppers? I doubt it! Unoriginal, samey weddings are unexciting, and make guests sigh at the thought of having to go to another. Excite your guests and make your wedding personal to you by customising every aspect – be prepared for loads of ideas to follow!

The Little Details

  • What do you and your other half love to do together? For example, if you both love to read at bedtime then it might be a nice idea to stack old hardback books on the tables to make stands for your flowers. If you both have a sweet tooth, you could send out Willy Wonka inspired golden tickets to be your wedding invites! Your wedding could then have a sweet theme!

  • Why not turn the wedding day into something totally unexpected? Don’t start the day with the ceremony, have it in the evening before you have dinner. This way, you can greet all of your guests and feel relaxed as you go to say your vows.

  • Put together welcome packs for guests from out of town.

  • If your guests will be required to walk from the ceremony to the reception, consider providing them all with a helium balloon in the colour of your wedding theme. This vision of dozens of balloons making their way to your reception will make fantastic photos, and also ensure that nobody gets lost! You can then get everybody to release their balloons into the sky for a fantastic photograph (especially if you pick one of these attractive wedding venues in Scarborough)!

  • Set up a craft area at your reception where guests can get crafty and build themselves something to take home, like a bow tie or badge.

  • Create your very own wedding cocktail, give it a special name, and make it the signature drink of the night.

  • For Christmas weddings, you could ask each guest to bring you a bauble for your tree. Every year you’ll use them and be reminded of what a great day you had, as well as your great friends!

  • Arrange some family wedding photos, going as far back as you can find, in vintage frames and display them at your reception. This will be a wonderful talking point for guests and make a lovely part of the decor.

  • Ask each guest to circle a word in the dictionary and then write a message on a bookmark as to why they picked that word. All homes should have a dictionary, and you can cherish this one for life!

  • Instead if having the standard guestbook for everyone to sign, why not ask them to sign a piece of pottery? A large platter or vase is perfect for this, and you can then go on to display it in your home!

  • Use your favourite book or film to theme your wedding.

  • Include your pet in your big day!

The only limit to how unique your wedding is, is your imagination. Have fun planning, and make it special to you!
