Things You Should Never Ask Your Bridesmaids to Do

Planning a wedding can be a lot of fun, especially with bridesmaids who are ready to help you. Choosing the right bridesmaids is essential, since they will be with you through the entire process and can make your life much easier as you prepare for this big day. Of course, it is important to be kind to your bridesmaids, because there are horror stories of brides behaving badly once the wedding day arrives.

Things You Should Never Ask Your Bridesmaids to Do

If you are getting married soon and want to ensure that your bridesmaids have a great time, there are some things you should consider. Here’s a list of what you should never ask your bridesmaids to do below.

Change Their Appearance

This is a big no-no when it comes to bridesmaids. You should never ask them to change the way they look for the wedding day. This includes asking them to dye their hair or even lose weight to fit in the dress you have chosen. You have to remember that they are doing you a favor by being your bridesmaids, so you cannot ask them to drastically change the way they look.

Drink More Than They Want to or At All

Not everyone enjoys drinking. Some people never do it and they should not have to force themselves to do so for you. This means that if you are having a bachelorette party where there will be alcohol, let your bridesmaids drink as much or as little as they want. They are there to support you, but not to be forced to do something that they do not want to do.

Make Them Buy Lots of Stuff

For most weddings, the bridesmaids know that they will have to purchase their own dress, but this can be made even better by settling on a color scheme instead and letting them wear dresses they already own.

You should not ask them to spend a lot of money on a dress they will not wear again. Some brides even force bridesmaids to clothes they don’t like for the pre-wedding hours, and this is just not fair. They should not have to spend their paychecks on your wedding.

Flirt with Groomsmen

There is the old tradition that the groomsmen and bridesmaids should flirt, but this is not appropriate. Do not force anyone to flirt or hang out with someone else if they do not want to. If you want to set up one of your bridesmaids with a groomsman, introduce them and let them choose whether to pursue the relationship or not.

Be a Go-Between

This is very common, especially in large weddings where conflicts can arise. Do not use any of your bridesmaids to handle issues between family members. They will not appreciate it. You do not want to add stress to someone who is supposed to be there to have fun and celebrate you on your wedding day.

By staying away from these five things, you and your bridesmaids can have a great time at your wedding. Remember, just because it is your special day, it does not give you the right to treat anyone badly.

If anything, you should be treating them even better as they have agreed to help you out on your big day. You can show grateful you are to them by giving them a little gift. This can be something as sentimental yet simple like earrings or something luxurious yet useful like satin robes.

With great bridesmaids that feel happy, you will have a wonderful wedding that you will be able to remember forever.
