Planning a Co-ed or Jack and Jill Shower
In the past, bridal showers were women-only affairs. But these days,
it's common for both men and women to attend. Commonly called co-ed
showers or Jack and Jill showers, these gatherings are designed to
be enjoyable for men and women alike. If this sounds like the type
of shower you'd enjoy, then read on. Here are tips to help you throw
a fantastic co-ed shower that is a blast for the guys and girls!
The Guest List
For a co-ed shower, you'll want to invite members of the wedding
party, relatives of the bride and groom, and close friends. Because
you're throwing a co-ed shower, you'll want to specify this on the
invitations so the women on the guest list know that it's OK to
bring a date.
The Activities
For a co-ed or Jack and Jill shower, much of the time is spent
socializing, eating, drinking and opening presents. There usually
isn't a lot of customary bridal shower games, as these activities
are often designed with strictly women in mind and aren't much fun
for the guys. However, if you're determined to have some games and
activities, how about some volleyball or a friendly game of cards?
The Menu
Many co-ed showers in the warm months are held outdoors, and for
these, grilled fare is a great idea! Serve traditional barbecue
choices like hamburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob and potato salad.
If you've got a large budget, chicken, fish and steak are also great
choices! Stock coolers with bottled water, soda, and light beer, and
if you like, serve a nice champagne as well.
Choosing a Theme
Often bridal showers feature certain themes. For a Jack and Jill
shower, there are some themes that make popular choices. Try an
electronics theme, where everyone brings DVDs and CDs to the couple.
Or, how about a fun bar theme, where each guest brings a different
type of wine or liquor? You could go with a travel theme, where
guests present the couple with things luggage, travel books, and
disposable cameras.
A Jack and Jill or co-ed shower can be a great way to bring friends
and family together and celebrate an upcoming wedding. So why not
throw tradition to the wind and let the guys in on the fun of a
bridal shower? You'll be glad you did!
