5 Things To Prepare For Your Engagement

Choosing to get engaged is an exciting yet nerve wracking time. If you are planning a surprise, you want to make sure you get everything just right, which means getting into your partner’s head. If you want it to all go smoothly, you need to be ready for it. Here are five things you need to prepare for your engagement.

5 Things To Prepare For Your Engagement

  1. The Family

A very traditional thing to do before an engagement is to ask your significant others’ Father permission to ask them to marry you. Even if you aren’t personally traditional yourself, if your partner is, they will appreciate the gesture. It would also be nice to speak to your own family about how they feel. They will probably get you even more excited, as well as be able to help you out with organising it.

  1. The Ring

If you decide to choose the ring yourself, you need to know your partner’s likes and dislikes. Try and discover whether they like small pieces of jewellery, or something that makes a bit more of a statement. It might be nice to get something a little alternative, and look at antique engagement rings instead. Another way of getting something different is to choose a coloured stone. If you are really stuck, then opt to choose it afterwards with your partner. They might think it isn’t worth the surprise if they are picky about jewellery!

  1. The Moment

Make sure you have prepared your moment well. You don’t want something unexpected to ruin it. For example, if you are in a restaurant, it might be a good idea to let the staff know you are going to do it. This way they can bring a bottle of champagne over straight after, or make sure the next table’s birthday cake doesn’t get brought out at the same time. If you are going to be outside, check the weather forecast for that time so you don’t get caught in the rain. Though that could be romantic too!

  1. Your Surroundings

Think carefully about where you would like to pop the question. The place someone is when they are proposed to is the element they will remember forever. If you’d like somewhere exotic, why not wait until your next holiday abroad? Or you could choose to be really adventurous and book a weekend away especially for the proposal – not that they’d know that! Alternatively, why not choose somewhere that means something to both of you? It could be where you first date was, or your favourite place to visit together. This would make your proposal a lot more personal.

  1. Your Audience

Do you want one? Or would you rather be alone, just the two of you? Deciding who you want around you is important to think about beforehand. If your partner is very close to their family, they might appreciate if you organised to have them present when you propose. Or they might just want to share the moment with just you. Work out what they’d prefer so you can prepare for it.

Make sure your proposal goes smoothly by making sure you are prepared. Your partner is going to remember this moment forever, so make sure it is special and well planned out!
