The Romance of a Hawaiian Honeymoon
Hawaii is the number one honeymoon destination in the world, and
it’s not hard to see why. Where else could the bride and groom
expect to be treated like royalty, and still be able to relax in
casual, informal clothes? Where else would the exotic scents of
fragrant flowers mingle with the aroma of some of the world’s most
delicious cuisine? America’s 50th state has it all.
For the honeymooner, Hawaii is paradise. For the honeymooner who
loves to surf, swim, dive, or just laze about on pristine sands,
Hawaii is heaven on Earth.

The Six Islands of Hawaii
The six destination islands of Hawaii consist of Hawaii itself,
known as the Big Island, and the five smaller islands of Oahu,
Molokai, Lanai, Kauai and Maui. There are many other smaller islands
but these six offer honeymooners a wealth of romantic options.
On Big Island, where many honeymooners choose to go, there are
romantic honeymoon packages offered by the major resorts and hotels,
such as the Kona Village Resort. Seasoned travelers suggest not
staying too long at Hawaii’s most urban location, Waikiki – ride the
trolley to Chinatown and then head for your chosen beach or resort.
Island hopping can be a fun way to spend your time in Hawaii,
spending a few days on Big Island then heading out to visit one or
more of the smaller islands.
On Oahu you can steep yourself in the rich history of the islands,
and visit the Iolani Palace, where the last monarch, Queen
Liliuokalani made her home.
On Molokai, be sure to see the Iliiliopae Heiau, a huge ancient
temple platform, and one of the most spiritual sites in the world.
Kauai is where you go to drink in the beauty of Hawaiian plant life
at the botanical gardens and attend a fabulous luau at one of the
resorts.
Lanai is an island steeped in history and prehistory. Visit the
Lanai Playhouse, built in the 1920s, for a truly romantic retro
experience.
On Maui, take the Lahaina-Kaanapali and Pacific Railroad for an
unforgettable journey through historic plantations.
Romancing the Hawaiian Islands
If you decide to settle on one island, rent a car and go exploring.
You’ll rediscover the pleasure of driving together through gorgeous
scenery on quiet roads. There is no rush and bustle here, with
plenty of time to pull over and spend a romantic time together in
some of the most beautiful places on earth.
What to Wear in Hawaii?
Take your most comfortable walking shoes, because you will want to
take long romantic strolls together, and not just on the beach.
Island dress is casual, even at night, and even at the resorts,
where shirts and dress shorts without jackets and ties are
acceptable for men, and slacks are acceptable for women.
But you will want to go shopping together, and may pick up some
fabulous aloha shirts and muu muus, both of which can be worn at any
time of day.
