Wedding Planning Basics

Corners You Should Never Cut For Your Wedding

Planning and preparing for a wedding can be the most joyous, stressful and exhausting thing you will ever do! Your day will be truly magical, considering some of the suggestions will ensure it will be a day of perfection and joy!

Corners You Should Never Cut For Your Wedding

For those of us without the luxury of a wedding planner, the first step is a checklist. This will be your lifeline.

On starting the all-important checklist, you begin with enthusiasm and confidence. You’ll add things like dress, flowers, food and entertainment. As the list grows, so does the expense! It is now the time that decisions have to be made about what is essential, necessary, a luxury or just a whimsical dream. Not everything will stand up to scrutiny!

Let’s start with the bride; splashing out on your dream dress is essential! However, it can then be a temptation to hold back on spending on the shoes. You will spend your day, standing, walking, gliding, you need to be in the most elegant yet comfortable shoes. Spend what is needed. Your feet will thank you, and you will be able to keep smiling throughout your magical day.

And what about your bag? Make sure that at least your chief bridesmaid or maid of honour has access to your emergency bag. This is an essential for the day. It has to hold a brush, tissues, lipstick, foot gel, sewing kit, pumps. This is absolutely not something to be dismissed!

You’ll also want to ensure that your wonderful family and friends have a day they will remember. So ensure in your planning that you don’t cut corners on feeding and entertaining. Access to refreshments throughout the day should be factored in and ordering more rather than less is vital. During your special time with your new husband having photographs, keeping your guests entertained should be on the top of your list! Be creative and imaginative. Your ideas don’t have to cost a fortune but they need to be in place.

Let’s also talk about photographs. When looking for a photographer, do your homework. Talk to newly married friends. Word of mouth is a positive tool. Ask to look at their wedding album and any videos. These can offer you a real insight into how the photographer works. Visit wedding fayres and meet with your photographer. Have a list of questions and trust your instinct. Go with somebody with great reviews from previous clients. Do you feel comfortable with this person? Remember that you will be spending all day with them and you are entrusting them to produce a  keepsake to treasure for the rest of your life. Invest and don’t settle for anything less than perfection!

A wedding day should be full of music and laughter. Music creates the atmosphere and nurtures memories. Think about this carefully, don’t put it at the bottom of your list. The Bride and Groom should talk about this and decide together what music should be the backdrop to their day. Don’t cut this corner, keep it central to your planning. Consider live music or recorded music. Or, can anyone in your family or one of you friends sing a tune? If so, perfect!
