Setting Up A Bridal Registry
For newly engaged couple a bridal registry is a fun thing. But as
most of the couples find out it can become overwhelming very
quickly. Close family members may pressure you to start early, but
it’s helpful to wait three to six months before the wedding.
Here
are some helpful tips which will make registering of gifts a fun and
pleasurable experience.
1. Unless you are registering only for few thing don’t register for
everything in a day. Usually it takes only 2 to 3 days to register
for everything you need. If you are registering in advance, make
sure to note down the items and patterns as the trends keeps
changing. But it is always better to register one month before as
the stores turn over merchandise so rapidly that any gift that you
have selected earlier may be discontinued.
2. Before registering get an idea of what items and styles you
prefer. Spend some time window shopping, going through bridal
magazines to get an idea. Decide what styles dinnerware, flatware,
crystals centerpieces, linens, silverware and glassware you like, so
that when you get to the store you are not confused.
3. Most of the couples register for dinnerware, glassware, cookware,
appliances, cutlery and bedding. Always keep in mind the budget
before making up your mind. In case, you like something expensive
you could ask few friends or family members to pool in together.
Make sure to add some lower price items as well.
4. When you decide to register, set aside a full day for the first
trip. Arrive early in the morning when the stores are less crowded
and the sales clerk can show you around properly. During the day
plan a light lunch break. Get back to completing the registry work.
5. During the second trip taking your mother or mother in law would
be a good idea. This would make your guy feel good, as you are
giving his mother importance along with yours. Listen to their ideas
and suggestions, but remember they are just helping you .The end
decision should be yours.
6. Remember that marriage is a compromise. While you simply adore
the elegant bone china with intricate light color flowers your
fiancé may not like eating on them. Try to work out a way and make a
decision.
7. Check carefully the stores return policy; most stores make
special accommodations for registry customers. Stores policies vary
dramatically so be sure you know about all the policies and the
store’s overall reputation for bridal friendliness before you
register, or else returns and exchanges could be a big hassle.
8. Try to choose a store that lets you modify, update, and check
your registry online. This can save you lot of headaches.
9. Also a bridal consultant, home coordinator or your wedding
planner may be able to assist in the selection process and make
suggestion on items you may not have considered.
